An Analysis of the Election Manifestos of INC and BJP for Indian General Elections 2019

As General Elections 2019 approach in India, both major National parties, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and INC (Indian National Congress) have released their manifestos. Unable to go through the Manifestos in detail due to a major work project, I tried to take the statistician's shortcut to analyze the English version of both Manifesto's using free online tools (Statistical Analysis Software & Word Cloud Generator) to get a quick sense of what  were the core issues that each party was focusing on.

While this approach can be approached as the whole truth (What each party says and does ion practice will be slightly different while a written Manifesto is evidence for prosperity) it still should be enough to hold a party accountable and get a sense of what it feels are the real issues that matter for voters (or should matter for voters).

  • INC Election Manifesto 2019 - Interesting that the second most common word after Will (576 times) is Congress (397) and promises (207), followed by India (100). Personal opinion, but seems that the country comes lower down in the hierarchy of things for the Congress

  • BJP Election Manifesto 2019-  In contrast the top 5 words in the BJP Manifesto are Will (365), Ensure (119), India (114), years (74), Government (74). The party mentions itself (BJP-19 times) and does not mention the Congress at all

And just for kicks here are the top 100 words in each Manifesto. Both parties seem to sell a story of hope (Will is top rated word in both Manifestos) to the voter.

Will try to get back and try to classify further based on Economy, Internal Security, Social Sector, Foreign Affairs, Defense, etc for top 100 words later.
